Surgical Treatment

Sometimes surgery might be recommended to improve your chances of conceiving. Examples include:

Removal of ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, polyps

Treatment of endometriosis – a common gynaecological condition causing a cluster of recognised symptoms including both painful periods and sexual intercourse as well as pelvic pain.

Repair of caesarean section scars (niche) – A previous caesarean section can affect fertility by interrupting both sperm transportation and an embryo sticking to the womb lining.

Fallopian tube surgery – Fertilisation of the sperm and egg occurs in the fallopian tubes and these can become blocked or damaged.

Correction of uterine septums – Occasionally the inside of the womb exists a thin wall (septum) which can affect fertility and cause miscarriages.

Repair of male varicoceles – Large varicose veins in the testes can affect sperm production.
