Sonya Herbert

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2011 after completing a BSc Hons in Adult Nursing. Since then, I have dedicated most of my career to Women’s Health, Oncology, and early pregnancy.

In 2016, I chose to further my expertise by specialising in Reproductive Health and Fertility. I have been working as a Specialist Fertility Nurse since then, providing support and care for couples facing the challenges of infertility. My role actively involves managing IVF, ICSI, and IUI cycles. I also have a keen interest in Fertility Preservation and the role of complementary therapies as a holistic approach to treatments. Additionally I am trained in trans-vaginal scanning and practice as a Non-Medical Independent Nurse Prescriber (NMP).

Working within the Fertility unit at Ipswich is something I am immensely proud of, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my career. I am passionate about supporting couples and raising awareness for those on the fertility journey.

Lucy Garnham

I was appointed as a Fertility Nurse Specialist at Ipswich Hospital in 2017.

I have 25 years nursing experience within Women’s health; graduating and starting my career at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
I later relocated to Ipswich , where I continued working in gynaecology, gaining a breadth of experience in surgical care, emergency gynaecology assessment and early pregnancy.

Following an elective placement as a student at Bourn Hall Fertility Clinic; my ambition was always to work in reproductive health.

I was fortunate to be offered a Specialist Nurse position eight years ago and since then I have gained knowledge and experience in sub fertility and assisted conception. My role includes managing IVF/ICSI and IUI cycles. I am also trained in Trans Vaginal Ultrasound scanning.

My main area of interest is assessing the psychological impact that infertility causes to couples and providing the individualised care required.
In response to this I have completed a diploma in Counselling and I am a member of the British Infertility Counselling Association. I am also a Clinic Ambassador for ‘Fertility Network Uk’ and promote their work to support our patients.

Rebecca Savage

“Hi my name is Becky, I am a nurse specialist who has the privilege or working within the Ipswich Fertility team. I started my nursing journey when I qualified in 2015 with a degree in adult nursing. I began my career in gynaecology which I loved for nearly five years. From there I went on to try other areas of nursing which included working in neonatal care and infusion day unit, where I developed new skills and knowledge. When the opportunity arose to work in fertility I jumped at the chance. A decision which I am extremely grateful for.

I joined the fertility team in 2020 and have not looked back since. It is a privilege and honour to have the opportunity to be part of our patients’ experience, making their dream of becoming parent a reality.

It is very rare to enjoy your job and look forward to coming into work, but hand on my heart I can say I do. When I think of all the patients we have helped I feel very proud and hope to carry on doing this for many years to come.”
